I was first diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on May 6, 2011. I was just 7 years old. Months before my dognosis I had been having many of the common symptoms: extreme thirst and hunger, fatigue, constant urination, weight loss, and irritability. My parents had just thought that it was adolenscene, just a kid being a kid. As the symptoms became worse and worse, my parents grew concerned of what could be wrong. One night, my mom had this vivid dream, a powerpoint of images of my symptoms playing over and over, and being a nurse, she sat right up and bed and said to my dad, “I know what’s wrong with Amber!” The next day we went to the urgent care for them to do some tests, and since that day needles and man-made insulin have always been a part of my life.
